Naast mijn zelf-geïnitieerde projecten werk ik soms in opdracht om bijvoorbeeld producten vast te leggen. Dit is de boekfotografie voor het kunstboek 'Just Another Trouble Bubble' van Joris van Merwijk, verkrijgbaar via Lecturis.
In een tijd waarin technologie steeds verder doordringt in ons dagelijks leven, roept Joris van Merwijk prangende vragen op over vrijheid en autonomie. Hoe vrij zijn we écht in een wereld vol technologie en controle?
Het boek sleept de lezer mee in de verwarrende, onduidelijke zijnstoestand van de mens in een zelfgecreëerde controlemaatschappij, waarin niets het oog van de camera lijkt te ontlopen. Angst wordt opgeklopt en ingezet als rechtvaardiging voor verregaande surveillance. Maar willen we dat echt? En moeten we dat zomaar accepteren?
Het bijzondere ontwerp is gerealiseerd door Sophie van Kempen en weerspiegelt de bovenstaande thematiek op een diepgaande manier. De open rug met de typografie Liber Es! — Jij bent vrij — benadrukt zowel de kwetsbaarheid als de kracht van de inhoud. De bijzondere stofomslag toont een overzicht van verzamelde en opgeslagen cameradata, een overweldigende weergave van onze digitale voetafdruk en de schending van onze privacy.
Ik probeer altijd de essentie, inhoud van het product (in dit voorbeeld dit kunstboek) te versterken door middel van beeld. Soms is analoge fotografie meer geschikt en soms digitale fotografie, dit leg ik graag in een vrijblijvend gesprek uit. Met mijn beelden probeer ik de unieke verhalen en artisticiteit van het product te laten zien.

In a time when technology is increasingly penetrating our daily lives, Joris van Merwijk raises pressing questions about freedom and autonomy. How free are we really in a world full of technology and control?
The book drags the reader into the confusing, unclear state of being of man in a self-created control society, in which nothing seems to escape the eye of the camera. Fear is whipped up and used as a justification for far-reaching surveillance. But do we really want that? And should we just accept it?
The design was realized by Sophie van Kempen and reflects the above theme in a profound way. The open spine with the typography Liber Es! — You are free — emphasizes both the vulnerability and the power of the content. The special dust jacket shows an overview of collected and stored camera data, an overwhelming view of our digital footprint and the violation of our privacy.
I always try to strengthen the essence, content of the product (in this example this art book) by means of images. Sometimes analogue photography is more suitable and sometimes digital photography, I am happy to explain this in a non-binding conversation. With my images I try to show the unique stories and artistry of the product.
